USP announces
Quality Demonstration Program
At a public meeting September 5, the US
Pharmacopoeia announced its plan to certify supplement makers
who meet specific content and purity standards, allowing them
to mark their labels with a unique certification symbol. Manufacturers
would be charged a fee for the service, and would be subject to
regular quality audits. The program is intended to establish consistent
standards for the industry and boost consumer trust in the certified
products. USP says it is considering using outside contractors
for the post-certification audits. The Tan Sheet; September
