Pycnogenol® helps in chronic venous insufficiency

Pycnogenol (a product made from French maritime pine bark extract) significantly improved symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) in a clinical trial involving 40 people.
According to the results of the study, which included both a double-blind and an open phase, Pycnogenol significantly reduced leg swelling, sensations of leg heaviness, venous pressure, and capillary leakage in people with CVI. Study subjects took 100 mg of Pycnogenol three times a day for two months. The researchers speculated that the extract's effects were related to antioxidant activity, its ability to stabilize collagenous structures, or a combination of the two.
