NBTY acquires Nutrition Warehouse, claims 9% of US market share for
vitamin E
The company acquired Nutrition Warehouse for $20 million in cash
and 1,058,000 shares of NBTY stock. The acquisition will enable
NBTY to expand its leading Internet position, by combining Nutrition
Warehouse's e-commerce business with its puritan.com operation,
which offers prices between 30% to 40% lower than other online
competitors. Nutrition Warehouse's 15 Long Island, NY retail stores
will also be integrated into NBTY's Vitamin World retail operation,
which has approximately 400 stores nationwide.
In related news, NBTY's Puritan.com vitamin E brands, Puritan's
Pride® and Nutrition Headquarters®, were named leaders
in the vitamin E category with a 9% combined market share, according
to a report conducted by the Hartman Group. NBTY is a leading
manufacturer and marketer of more than 5,000 nutritional supplements.
The company recently reported revenues of $630 million for the
fiscal year ending September 30, 1999.
