groups petition FDA to adopt ephedra guidelines
On October 25, a coalition of industry
trade associations submitted a citizen petition urging FDA to
adopt the industry's four-year-old voluntary guidelines for labeling
and marketing of ephedra-containing products. The petition also
includes a request for FDA clearance of continued sales of ephedra/caffeine
combination products. The industry's proposed labeling guidelines
include warnings for specific consumer groups as well as serving
and daily consumption limits. The four groups that submitted the
petition are the American Herbal Products Association, the National
Nutritional Foods Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products
Association, and the Utah Natural Products Alliance. The Tan
