On September 21,
1998, Warner-Lambert of Morris Plains, NJ launched two standardized herbal
products in the mass market, Quanterra Mental Sharpness with ginkgo and
Quanterra Prostate with saw palmetto. Additional Quanterra products are
expected to follow in January, 1999. Warner-Lambert’s herbal line is designed
to fill a need among health care providers for standardized products backed
by clinical research. “We take our role as educators very seriously,”
commented Barry Turner, Vice President of the Warner-Lambert Complementary
Medicine Division. The company will make clinical studies available and
offer continuing education courses for pharmacists. Marketing will include
television and print advertising, as well as newspaper inserts and discount
coupons. According to OTC Update, the company will target doctors via
direct mail advertising. As of September 30, early sales to retailers
were $3 million. The Quanterra introduction follows on the heels of Bayer’s
One-a-Day brand herbals product launch in August, 1998. |
