Although a proposed
ban on ephedra was rejected in Texas, other states with ephedra legislation
pending are California, Indiana, Virginia, Vermont, Illinois, Hawaii,
Iowa, New York, New Hampshire, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
Ephedra product manufacturers urge legislators to follow the example set
by Montana's bill, which exempts dietary supplements from the law restricting
over-the-counter sale of ephedrine products. Some ephedra manufacturers
are already following AHPA recommendations to list on labels specific
conditions that could result from improper product use. NNFA and other
groups have urged FDA to establish ephedra regulations, but no regulations
have yet been issued. |
